My first Macbook

I’ve just bought a new Macbook (MB062) at iBox Mall Kelapa Gading 3.

It’s quite a beautiful piece of equipment :) but I’m not just looking for a beautiful notebook, one factor that I value most from a notebook is durability. Because I plan to use the machine as my main computer where I do my programming (with .NET C# 2.0) and other activity.

Before choosing this macbook over other contender (mainly Thinkpad T and X series) I’m quite doubtful about it’s record of durability especially after I found many problem with the early macbook (core duo/first generation) when I search in the internet. But there is one website that vanish my doubt http://www.bitsofnews.com/content/view/5554/2/

To make long story short after reviewing my options for about 3 weeks, I decided to buy the macbook (MB062) at 21 Sept 2007 and I’m glad to make the choice. I’ve just use the macbook for few days so I can’t comment on the durability/reliability but the experience of using OS X in a macbook compared with my previous notebook Windows XP SP2 IBM X30, I would say the macbook are doing well indeed.

Every software update are taken care by the OS X. In IBM X30, IBM supplied IBM update utility that really simplified upgrading component of you system from BIOS to drivers. Compared with my Fujitsu N3000 even though the Fujitsu is a more modern system compared with the IBM X30, I would never comeback to the Fujitsu or any other brand notebook beside the IBM T or X series. IBM Thinkpad are famous for the durability and reliability and my personal experience prove that claim.

The macbook really surprise me because I never thought to find such easy to use system and durability in such a beautiful package. There is however one feature that I missed from using the Thinkpad X series it is Thinkpad Light (a little LED that will illuminate the keyboard) to allow you work in the dark that unfortunately not available in the macbook (macbook pro has a illuminate keyboard).

Usually beauty and durability does not came along together but bravo to the apple to combine such characters into the macbook and with the OS X easy to use and stability (good performance too) the combination is complete.
